Living in Grayson County
Grayson County in western Kentucky is one of the largest in the state from a square mileage standpoint, although a population of approximately 26,000 means there is plenty of space to roam or make a home. The Twin Lakes region provides a wonderful environment for raising a family and also draws in people from throughout the region for a variety of activities, from the Honey Festival in Clarkson to the National Fiddlers Contest in Leitchfield. It is a testament to the hard-working nature of Kentuckians that so many national corporations – Campbell Hausfeld, Leggett & Platt, Modern Transmission Development, Plastikon Industries and more – choose to locate manufacturing facilities employing hundreds of Grayson County residents here. Grayson County High School, conveniently located in Leitchfield, sponsors a variety of athletic and extracurricular activities that see students competing locally, statewide and even nationally. Games against local rivals such as Edmonson County HS, Ohio County HS and other area schools draw a large community following.
Driving in Grayson County
Despite its relatively small population, Grayson County roadways stay busy. Half of our working population is employed outside of the county, commuting to jobs in towns such as Owensboro and Elizabethtown. Much of that driving takes place on the Western Kentucky Parkway, bisecting the county from Neafus in the west to the eastern border near Big Clifty en route to Elizabethtown. US 62 runs west to east, passing through Leitchfield and Clarkson on the way to Versailles and eventually Lexington. Running north and south is Kentucky Highway 259, from the Nolin Lake State Park region up through Rough River country. 259 is arguably the most dangerous road in Grayson County, with dozens of the nearly 400 accidents resulting in injuries occurring on the stretch of 259 between the Leitchfield Bypass and the Western Kentucky Parkway. For car accidents involving tractor trailers, the Western Kentucky Parkway saw over a dozen accidents resulting in injury the past two years. During the same time frame, there have been more than a dozen injury accidents involving motorcycles across the county.
When it is a car going up against a tractor trailer or a motorcyclist in any sort of accident, there are major risks for the drivers. Mirroring the rest of the country, Grayson County has seen an increase in the number of injury accidents attributable to distracted driving, accounting for as many as 10% of area incidents the past two years. Rhoads & Rhoads has successfully represented clients who were injured as a result of that sort of vehicular negligence.
Count on Rhoads & Rhoads for Experienced Legal Representation
In addition to vehicle and motorcycle accidents, Rhoads & Rhoads is a group of local personal injury lawyers who represent clients in a variety of personal injury cases involving:
- Product liability – when a defective product impacts a person’s life
- Nursing home abuse – i.e., when appropriate care is not provided for residents
- Wrongful death – sadly, which occurs in a variety of scenarios
- Premises liability – when property owners are responsible for an unsafe environment
- Medical malpractice – when a medical facility does not live up to its required standard of care
- Drug and medicine injuries – when approved drugs or medical devices are found to be unsafe
- Brain injuries – traumatic injury to the brain resulting in disability
- Social Security disability – navigating the arduous process of applying and receiving Social Security disability funds
- Industrial injuries – when the employer is responsible for you job site injury
- Workers’ compensation – when you are hurt at work
A common misconception is that the terms workers’ compensation and industrial injuries are interchangeable. The primary difference between the two is that industrial injuries generally refers to situations where an employer is directly responsible for injury (or death) because of proven neglect or violations of law, whereas workers’ compensation is an insurance plan most employers are required to carry as financial protection for workers in case of injury. Despite improvements in the past few years, the state of Kentucky continues to see incidences of industrial injuries occurring at rates higher than the national average.
In Grayson County, where two of the largest employers are industrial companies, it is important for workers to understand that they can hold employers accountable if negligence on the corporation’s part results in serious injury or death for an individual. Employers such as these often have staff members and a team of lawyers who are there to protect the interests of the enterprise. Unfortunately, this can sometimes be a detriment to the impacted individual and his or her family. If you feel your workplace injury is due to the malfeasance of your employer, you owe it to yourself to reach out to Rhoads & Rhoads personal injury attorneys for a no-fee, no-obligation consultation, so we can help determine if you deserve compensation for your accident case.
